Save Nature: Now at Trichy (NIT), Food waste will become biogas to cook food!!

The National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NIT-T) has decided to test a biogas plant in Nisargruna. This plant will use food waste to produce biogas which will be distributed to the mess in the premises. NIT-T is building the plant in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Mumbai.

The efforts by NIT-T

This has to be noted that NIT-T has become the first institute to sign an MOU DAE Technologies Display and Dissemination Facility (DTDDF) center at NIT-T. The organization will promote different projects by BARC. The new biogas plant is just a beginning. From the lessons that NIT-T learns from the plant, will be used to make it more successful and efficient. The institute is planning to launch 5 more biogas plants in neighboring villages of NIT-T.

The training related to this plant will be held at BARC developed technologies including NISARGRUNA (Biogas Plant), Soil Organic Carbon Detection Kit (SOCDK), Domestic Water Purifier (DWP), Foldable Solar Dryer (FSD), Vibro Thermal Disinfection (VTD) and Fluoride Detection Kit (FDK).

Cost and technical support

BARC developed technologies including NISARGRUNA (Biogas Plant), Soil Organic Carbon Detection Kit (SOCDK), Domestic Water Purifier (DWP), Foldable Solar Dryer (FSD), Vibro Thermal Disinfestor (VTD) and Fluoride Detection Kit (FDK).

They will also encourage farmers to use and develop these technologies for their daily needs. The cost of the project will be Rs.42,20,000/- which will be funded by BARC. NIT-T will manage the whole project and will provide space and skilled manpower for the project.

It is very important to make sure that the food that is going to waste can have some use. The byproduct of this plant will be biodegradable manure that can be used in the organic fields. The overall benefits of the plant are noteworthy. In the past couple of years, people are trying to shift to a whole new age of Clean India and non-conventional source of energy. This plant will be helpful in the same track in long run.
