About 60% of Indian Engineering Graduates are not employable

In a shocking revelation today, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar told the Rajya Sabha that about 60% of Indian engineering graduates failed to get placements after completing college. He was quoting figures from a latest study conducted by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE).

This happened during the Question Hour in the Upper House of the Parliament today after several members expressed their concern with the quality of technical education in the country.

The HRD Minister also said that the AICTE will now provide summer internships to at least 75% of engineering graduates in the country to ensure that they are up-to-date with the industry and are able to find a job for themselves.

Along with that, the Council will also upgrade the engineering syllabus across the country. With this, the government aims to improve the number of employable engineers by at least 20%.

The HRD Minister also said that colleges offering Bachelor of Education or BEd courses have been asked to submit affidavits regarding the number of teachers, college infrastructure etc. after numerous complaints were received by the government about their quality.
