4 Tips for Keeping your Resume Mobile Ready

Anyone who has ever wanted to get a job change (or get a job in general), knows the value of a well written and accessible resume. No matter which industry you work in, which designation you apply for or which company you’re interested in, it’s a well written and easily accessible resume that will make sure you get that job. As such, it’s not advisable to only have a copy of your outdated resume hidden somewhere in your mailbox or computer.

Since job opportunities can come knocking anytime, and since we live in a world that is constantly on-the-go, it’s important to have your resume mobile ready, i.e., make it possible for potential recruiters to access and view your resume on their smartphones. It’s actually not that difficult to achieve this as getting your resume to be mobile ready won’t require you to give it a complete makeover. Here are four tips you should follow to make your resume mobile friendly –

  1. Keep your Resume Simple and to the Point

First of all, you should make sure that your resume is brief and to the point. Not only is this a guideline one should follow in general, but it becomes even more important if one has to make a resume mobile friendly. The reason behind this being that, recruiters going through your resume on their smartphones, would be looking at a mobile screen vertically. As such, the lesser they have to scroll down, the better it is. Remember, brevity is your friend here. Needless to say, this shouldn’t be applicable for people applying for creative jobs as they have to send in a portfolio of their work.

  1. Include Hyperlinks

Since you’re making a resume mobile friendly, why not take advantage of the technology and internet connectivity that recruiters would have access to? For instance, if you are applying for a writing job, and if you have got some by-lines on an online portal, why not include a link of those on your resume? Recruiters who will be going through your resume through their smartphones will be able to immediately check out your by-lines, thereby increasing your chances of setting up an interview.

  1. Easily Downloadable

While most recruiters may just go through your resume online, others might want to download it first. As such, in order to make your resume mobile friendly, you also need to make sure that it’s easily downloadable. This can be achieved by making sure that your resume is compact in size and ideally not more than 1 MB.

  1. See how your Resume looks like on Different Devices

Contrary to popular belief, the word ‘mobile’ does not just refer to smartphones. It refers to any device or gadget that is portable and has mobility. As such, it includes tablets and smartwatches as well. So, as a precaution, you should always make it a point of checking how your resume looks like not just on smarphones, but also on other devices.
