10 Signs & Symptoms of Dehydration

The heat wave is at its peak and if we are to believe the weather forecasters, it’s only going to get worse in the upcoming days.

In these months of Scorching Summer, it is quite necessary to stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids as dehydration is quite common and can be deadly too.

So, here are a few dehydration symptoms that will help you spot, you need more Hydration:

1) Dizziness and headaches:

Blood is majorly comprised of water and a drop in its concentration leads to low blood pressure, which in turn leads to dizziness and headaches.

2) Fatigue:

Lack of water will lead to a constant feeling of tiredness and sleepiness because the oxygen supply to the brain gets hampered due to it.

3) Dry Skin:

 

If your skin has suddenly lost its glow, elasticity and has become dry, it’s due to the fact that you’re not drinking enough water. To help your skin regain its lustre, drink up!

4) Acne and eczema:

 

If you are a victim of acne or irritation of skin, dehydration is the cause. The body needs to sweat at least 20-24 ounces of water (which it can’t do due to lack of water) to dilute the toxins which lead to skin irritation.

5) Constipation:

Even without dehydration, stocking up your body with fluids is the best cure for constipation. Water moves the food in your intestines and keeps the digestive system clean.

6) Colour of urine:

The colour of urine is a major indication or symptom of dehydration. So, if it becomes dark yellow in colour or appears more concentrated, it’s time to take a trip to the fridge and drink.

7) Frequency of urine:

If you don’t take a trip to the washroom at least once in every two hours, you’re not drinking enough water.

8) Muscle Spasms and Cramps:

Dehydration can induce muscle spasms and cramps in your body as our cartilage and spinal discs are also majorly made up of water.

9) Bursts of Hunger:

When our body demands water, it can sometimes be misconceived by the brain that it needs more food. This will make you crave more food than you need and will eventually result into obesity.

10) High Cholesterol:

Dehydration leads to excessive removal of liquids from the cells, which forces them to produce more cholesterol to compensate for the loss of water.
